Look in the mirror
“At some point, the mirror must tell you that something has to change.” Dr. BLR
Life sometimes shows you the errors of your ways, as long as you’re willing to accept responsibility. I try my best to always be the best person I can be every day. Yet, there are days when I observe others and ask, what the fuck are they thinking?
The past decade has exposed societal issues and raised questions about why people act as they do. I can’t speak for others, but sometimes we need to look at ourselves in the mirror to confirm that we are who we believe we are and should be.
Politics be damned, human life should come first. It’s rare to clearly identify what ails us, but today it’s become clearer than ever. Looking at the world stage, it’s obvious that certain white men are disrupting the peace and calm we’ve enjoyed. I’m not trying to stir racial tensions, but the culprits will stay unnamed. Geographically, they live in a country where Black people were once considered three-fifths of a person, in a country where some believe it’s okay to take someone else’s land, and in a country where a certain group thinks they were given land by a deity they worship. I can’t understand the thought process behind their actions, but it never seems like decisions are made with any empathy.
For those living in the U.S., we get the chance to choose our leaders every four years through what is often called a “Democratic” process, but I disagree. The majority always has the advantage in decision-making because they have created a system that favors them. Still, since this country’s founding, things and people have changed, but the mirror still refuses to show its viewer that they are wrong.
I don’t mean to state the obvious, but you can’t claim to hire the best without evaluating your image. A person’s background should matter when making critical decisions. Over the past year or so, there has been significant debate about qualifications, meritocracy, and related issues. This is just a smokescreen for one group’s dominance over others. If that's not true, then explain the incompetence we're currently experiencing. The mirror doesn't lie; it’s just that the person looking at it doesn’t care what it reflects, so they never actually look at it.
It's unfortunate that the leadership, and I use that term loosely, plans to send our military personnel to a foreign land where they won't be welcomed, all for nothing. Amid this reckless decision, many civilians will be killed by bombs and drones, while the children of those in power relax in the sun and enjoy the spoils of their sometimes ill-gotten wealth.
If they can get away with this nonsense, then I suggest that those who signed up to serve and protect should take a closer look in the mirror and ask themselves if it’s worth it. Furthermore, for the minority defenders, you haven’t done thorough research and fail to realize that you are still called animals, savages, and other derogatory names in closed-door meetings, where decisions about your life’s worth are made. Still, they refuse to see how their behavior contributes to a trail of destruction, bigotry, and discrimination wherever they go. It has become painfully clear why books and historical references have been removed from school curricula—that way, their children will never learn the truth about their past—yet they challenge the abilities of those who don’t look like them. Read into this as you will, but if you're honest with yourself and don’t have an issue with what you see in your mirror, then I believe you have the intellectual maturity not to be offended by what I really didn’t say but said aloud. Now tell me, who did you see in your mirror?
