“The day a police officer considers themselves only 'Blue' is when they've become lost.” Dr. BLR
I always like to give people the benefit of the doubt until I can gather most, if not all, of the facts. The picture above is something I observed on Facebook in a law enforcement-only forum (LEO). It was posted a day after the ICE shooting of a white lesbian woman, later identified as Renee Nicole Good, a mother of three, age 37, and a Minnesota resident. From the video evidence, it appeared that several ICE agents were barking orders at Good and attempting to enter her vehicle. One officer, later identified as Jonathan Ross, standing in front of Good’s vehicle, stepped to the side and was possibly grazed as Good tried to leave. While holding a cellphone in his left hand, Ross then drew his weapon with his right hand and shot Good, continuing to fire as her vehicle drove past him. I then observed Agent Ross place his gun back in his holster and limp slightly as he left the scene.
This police-involved shooting has a similar citizen-outrage vibe to the George Floyd shooting in Minnesota. The world has seen the video, and protests have begun. Politicians at all levels have made it clear they disagree with how things unfolded. However, President Trump's comments appear to validate the officer’s actions. His words were posted on his social media platform, “I have just viewed the clip of the event which took place in Minneapolis, Minnesota. It is a horrible thing to watch. The woman screaming was, obviously, a professional agitator, and the woman driving the car was very disorderly, obstructing, and resisting, who then violently, willfully, and viciously ran over the ICE Officer, who seems to have shot her in self-defense. Based on the attached clip, it is hard to believe he is alive, but he is now recovering in the hospital. The situation is being studied, in its entirety, but the reason these incidents are happening is that the Radical Left is threatening, assaulting, and targeting our Law Enforcement Officers and ICE Agents on a daily basis. They are just trying to do the job of MAKING AMERICA SAFE. We need to stand by and protect our Law Enforcement Officers from this Radical Left Movement of Violence and Hate!” This was a total mischaracterization of what happened, aka, a lie. Trump has been known to change his mind, but that could change depending on the political winds. However, in the end, it will be for the court to decide because the Trump Administration
Over the years, I’ve noticed a hardening of attitudes among some police officers regarding the line between citizens and law enforcement. Let’s take a closer look at the picture I copied from the LEO forum. To say the least, it’s insensitive and poorly timed. In a world where people are clamoring for more police protection, I can’t imagine this is what they meant.
In the 1930s and 1940s, the Germans created a secret state police force called the Geheime Staatspolizei, or the Gestapo. It was reported that the Gestapo committed crimes against citizens, including career criminals, ideological dissenters, and political opponents. Does any of this sound familiar? There is no doubt that President Trump is using his federal agents to do his bidding in Democratic-controlled states. The public raids are meant to instill fear among the state’s citizenry and send a personal message to the democratically elected governors. So, what are local and state police doing?
Many departments have been given marching orders and are assisting federal agencies in arresting, detaining, and ultimately deporting undocumented immigrants. On the surface, this appears legitimate. However, many cities within each state are designated as sanctuary cities, meaning local police are prohibited from assisting federal agencies. Recently elected New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani has instructed his administration, specifically the New York Police Department, to uphold the city’s sanctuary city mandate and not assist any federal agency attempting to arrest undocumented immigrants.
As a result, I’ve been monitoring the LEO forum and am disturbed by what I’m reading. I fully understand that most police officers are very fond of President Trump because of his anti-crime and pro-police leanings. I think it is this sentiment that makes the posts I’ve viewed truly disgusting and demeaning toward Black and Brown immigrants. Police officers are hired and take an oath to protect and serve and to uphold the U.S. Constitution. People have rights that must be protected regardless of your position on crime and criminals. What I’ve been observing is not in keeping with these precepts. Unfortunately, we are turning back the hands of time on progress, and I don’t think the damage can ever be repaired. The courts have sanctioned racial profiling in California. President Trump has pardoned criminals who assaulted police officers on January 6th. Citizens are being harassed by masked federal agents, and no one is doing anything to correct any of it. Police officers are eating this up on the forum because they believe that, no matter what they do, they will be exonerated. I will wait and see what the fallout is regarding the shooting of this white, lesbian female and mother of three children. And you best believe there will be. Why?
In 2017, Justine Damond, a white, 40-year-old Australian-American woman, contacted the Minnesota police department to report a possible rape in progress. Two Minnesota police officers responded. Based on conflicting accounts, a Somali Minnesota police officer, Mohamed Noor, fearing that his partner was in danger, shot and killed Damond. The officer was convicted of manslaughter and sentenced to 11 years in prison. Damond’s family filed a civil lawsuit and ultimately received $20 million, unlike George Floyd’s family, who received $6 million.
This recent killing will test the judicial system because it occurred in the same city and state, just blocks away from where George Floyd was murdered. However, the vile posts by police officers won’t stop. They’ve been emboldened by an administration that assures them they will be protected, leaving them looking like fools. Lastly, I will leave you with another meme posted in the LEO forum.
